Sold: Tobacco Tin Man
Rare antique Mayo’s Cut Plug “roly poly” tobacco tin, c. 1910. This fellow was dubbed the “Satisfied Customer,” one of a series of rare figural novelty brownie tins manufactured by the Tin Decorating Company (otherwise known as “Tindeco”). The tin depicts a rather self-satisfied looking gent of the robber baron set. In his crimson smoking jacket and vest draped with a heavy gold watch chain, the rotund mustachioed fellow puffs away contentedly at his pipe. But a little push will send him rolling across the floor—one of the reasons these rare tins are hard to find in good condition. This example has a few dents, but overall is in very good condition with great color and paint.
Condition
Very good antique condition save a few dents, namely on the figure’s forehead, on which the paint has flaked away to metal (about the size of a dime). Other than that, however, the paint is in very good shape, bright colors with relatively few scratches. Please examine photos closely.
