Early prosthetic leg / Wood and leather / c. mid-19th century

 

Antique and authentic 19th century “peg leg” prosthetic. A rare example in excellent condition, possibly Civil War era or earlier. The piece is wooden with a turned tapering shaft painted black and gold, with leather cushions and straps studded with brass or bronze tacks. I built a stand for it from an 19th century salvaged barn architectural fragment, the leg standing upright held by a removable vertical screw mounted in the sturdy wooden platform (though the base could always be jettisoned should the buyer prefer another display). The genuine article, ideal for piracy and hunting the White Whale.

Condition

Excellent antique condition, some corrosion to studs, torn leather and age related wear, but otherwise good shape. Displays well.
