Mineral Book Slate / slate, fiberboard / c. 1860s

Antique “Mineral Book Slate” erasable student’s notebook, patented 1867. To simulate a standard school slate, it appears they used stone dust and applied like enamel to each board, making the notebook portable, light, and relatively unbreakable. The “slates” still have some writing on them from homework 150-years overdue. Embossed on the cover with the manufacturer.

Good antique condition.
