Follow Me Sign

Large circular sign reading “Follow Me” / painted plywood / c. 1930s

This painted wooden sign was affixed to the back of an official vehicle at an airport. Having landed on the runway, a passenger aircraft would follow the sign posted on this vehicle, which would safely and efficiently escort the plane across the tarmac to its destination terminal. The sign is made of thin plywood and was painted by hand.

Condition

Good antique condition with some paint loss and discoloration from is years in use escorting airplanes on the runway.
