Sold: Early Apothecary Tools
Set of primitive antique apothecary tools, c. 18th or early 19th century. These iron and bronze tools were used to crush and combine the various herbal and chemical substances at the Apothecary’s disposal for dispensation to patients. Apothecaries in the 18th century practiced as doctors, and not only compounded but also prescribed medicine. Historically, apothecaries jealously guarded the secret formulas of their medicines, and the peculiar shapes and specialized nature of these curious tools only increase the mystery of the forgotten remedies they once rendered.
