Sold: Cast Iron Dog Bust

Bust of a dog / cast iron / c. 1870s

Cast iron dog head apparently representing an American Staffordshire Terrier, c. late 19th century. The unusual form has been mounted on a contemporary iron museum stand. The fragment may have originally been part of an arcade amusement or carnival device. Perhaps his open mouth once caught pennies, but it also happens to be the perfect shape to serve as a business card holder. Fine and detailed casting, indicating an early date. Likely one of a kind.
