Rare antique blue and white Staffordshire transferware plate depicting the Boston Insane Hospital. In the early nineteenth century, public amenities to benefit the indigent and mentally ill were new and humane innovations, and considered “Beauties of America” for both their picturesque architecture and as symbols of moral and societal progress.
