1850s Green Glasses

Tinted green eyeglasses / metal and colored glass / c. 1850s

Pair of Victorian tinted spectacles, c. 1850s. The lenses are pale green and the frame design is ingenious, with nesting extension temples. These curious specs were not originally designed as sunglasses but rather as corrective lenses under the belief that green or blue tinted glass aided eyesight. A handsome pair of antique specs.
