You’re Invited: The New Hampshire Antiques Show
Dear Friend of Old as Adam,
I’d like to invite you to the 60th Annual New Hampshire Antiques Show this weekend in Manchester, N.H on August 10-12. Since January, I’ve collected and saved some of the best objects I’ve ever had specifically for the Manchester show, and in just a couple of days you’ll finally be able to see the scores of antiques I’ve had under wraps all year. I’m honored to be an exhibitor and excited to share my collection with you in Manchester.
Many of us—myself included—have grappled this year with what it means to be an American. During 2017 as I’ve collected the objects seen here (and many, many more) a number of pieces seemed to offer answers to this question. Some embody our best qualities, others carry troubling strains, but all—as objects in time—unravel the fabric of American identity in plain sight. In a moment where so much is immaterial, our material past grounds us in who we are and can perhaps show us who we want to become. I’ve given the collection a name: “What So Proudly We Hailed: Objective American Character.” I find many of these objects important and inspiring—for our time—and I hope you’ll attend and experience them for yourself.
