Sold: Working the Wind

Miniature folk art whirligig / wood, tin / c. 1900

Antique turn of the century handmade folk art whirligig with a wooden figure who appears to labor at turning the wind-spun metal blade when it’s actually laboring to move him. Unusual smaller size at just over six inches tall. Great old weathered patina. The wind worked the fellow so hard that his face wore an impression in his forearms over the years. A simple design and humble form, but one of the most evocative whirligigs I’ve had.
