Sold: Victorian Moonlight Scrapbook

Antique Victorian scrapbook album, unused, c. 1870s. Embossed in silver and black, the charmingly strange and surreal cover depicts depicts owls on the bare branches of a tree silvered with moonlight, a cloud of bats apparently flying to join them, and a crescent moon personified as a beckoning woman. The following eccentric verse is written on the lower lefthand corner:

Five wise little Owls sitting on a tree.
Up rose the fair Moon, wonderful to see.
“Fly away! dear Owls, fly away to me.”
“Thank you very kindly, we’ll stick where we be.”

The album was never used, and although the pages (approximately 30) show some fading and discoloration, they are ready to compile your own eccentric verse (or what have you). The reverse cover is stamped “The Nonpareil” with a patent date of 1876.
