Sold: Used Sign

“Used” sign / wood / c. 1890s

Used “USED” wooden sign from a secondhand furniture store, upstate New York, c. late 19th century. Each letter is hand-carved wood painted in silver radiator paint mounted on a solid board painted a salmon color. Iron eye hooks once attached the sign to other signs spelling out the furniture store name. A humble example of the vernacular signmakers’ art.

Condition

Very good condition with strong paint. The right side vertical frame molding is missing.
