Sold: Twain Silhouette

Silhouette of gent / cut paper / c. 1870s

Antique silhouette of gentlemen with an extravagant mustache, c. mid- to late nineteenth century. He looks mighty like Samuel Clemens, wouldn’t you agree? The piece originated from the estate of a storied New Hampshire literary family, who could have very well hosted Mr. Mark Twain. Regardless, the silhouette has more than a little personality and is a great example of the portrait medium. Untouched and in its original lemon gold frame.
