Miniature belt-driven workshop tools from a steam engine toy set / painted tin / c. 1880s

Toy steam engines were popular educational toys for boys and came with a variety of accessories which could be arranged to demonstrate the tiny engine’s power. Via a belt system, these miniature workshop tools were engineered to function along a line shaft. With toys like these, children could reproduce in miniature the increasingly automated industrial workplaces in which their fathers labored. Here, a miniature saw, an industrial stamping machine, and a grinder come to life with no need for human hands to operate them.

Condition

Good antique condition, with paint loss, small dents, and old surface. Displays well. Components full functional. See photos.
