Description
Folk art hand-carved wooden egg containing two portraits, c. late nineteenth century. The handmade egg is halved and hinged to reveal gem tintype photos of a middle-aged couple inset to the interior of either half. When open, only one image is visible at a time, the couple split in two, as if at odds. When closed, the photos face one another within the egg, hidden in the interior darkness.
