Sold: Store Counter Cat

Antique trade stimulator plaster advertising figure of a cat, c. late 19th century. The cat would have stood on a store counter or inside a display case and likely held the unknown product he once peddled in his paw. The delicate and oversized piece is a rare survivor, and retains its original polychrome paint, from his loud checkered trousers to his yellow eyes. Based on his clothing and the figure’s construction, the feline advertising figure likely dates to the 1880s or 1890s.
