Stereoscopic Train Wreck
Stereoview photograph of a train wreck, c. 1870s. The name and date of this disaster is unknown; a typed explanation on the reverse only references a railroad along the Connecticut River. But perhaps tossed Pullmans and icy river provide all we need to know. Something about the figures perched on the ruined cars make them seem to look at the photographer—and us—with something like accusation.
The stereoview was sold by the Old Corner Book Store, Whitney & Adams, in Springfield, MA.
