Sold: Spotted Mirror

Folk art mirror / painted wood, glass / c. 1820s

Description

Folk art Chippendale scroll-frame mirror with spotted vinegar painted surface, c. first quarter nineteenth century. The unusual red painted decoration was perhaps intended to imitate cherry or birdseye maple, though as an abstract design applied to a sculptural form the piece remains fresh to the modern eye. The glass itself is period with minor loss of silvering.
