Sad iron trivet  / brass / c. mid-19th century

Brass sad iron trivet in sculptural spikey heart-shaped form, c. 1850s. Unusual for its stylized and evocative design, this trivet is raised on bun feet to protect a table surface from a searing hot clothes iron. Handsome antique patina. With its bold, timeless design, the piece would look equally striking displayed on a flat surface or mounted to a wall.
