Antique handmade wire trivet in a spiderweb form, c. 1900. An inventive and ingenious design, the wire web catches your hot kettle or pot on its little curled wire legs before it burns your tabletop. Original purpose aside, the piece is a work of folk sculpture and a great example of the tinker’s craft.
