Sold: Spandrel Fragment

Victorian spandrel architectural fragment / turned and painted wood / c. late 19th century

Painted architectural fragment from a porch spandrel, c. 1880s. The unusual turned elements create a cross hatched, woven effect, and probably skirted the roofline of the porch of an elaborate Victorian home. The fragment stands upright on its own, though could also be easily hung on a wall. The piece is strikingly sculptural, and has a bold, contemporary presence.
