Smoke Decorated Canister

Description

Tin general store or kitchen storage canister with wonderful smoke decoration. The lively patterns covering the canister were drawn with a burning candle or oil lamp help to the painted surface, each oscillating line charting the movement of the flame sweeping across the tin. A lovely example of this humble and expressive folk art technique.
