Rare antique Victorian “railroad” or “carriage” glasses intended for wear when traveling by rail to prevent airborne locomotive cinders from endangering the eyes, c. mid-19th century. Striking and sculptural design with folding side panels. Gray tinted lenses. Fully functional with bendable wire temples. One of the boldest and most inventive frame designs in history.
