Sold: Odd Fellows Slides Skull

Odd Fellows magic lantern slides / glass & wood / c. 1870s

Antique wood-encased glass magic lantern slides from an Odd Fellows Hall, c. late 19th century. Depicting a skull, all-seeing eye, three-link chain (symbolizing “Friendship, Loyalty & Truth”), and other fraternal Odd Fellows symbols, these hand-colored slides would have been projected with a kerosene-burning magic lantern during lodge rituals. They were assembled together in wood so that sequential slides could be pushed easily through the projector. A surreal and mysterious composition of fraternal images to hang on the wall or in a window.
