Sold: Navy Denim Bag

Antique U.S. Navy denim hand-painted ditty bag, c. 1910s. Likely dating to around World War I, the sailor’s bag is painted with an anchor and the letters “U.S.N.” in red and white. With its patches and small holes, it looks like this bag was at sea for significantly more than one deployment, and the denim itself shows handsome wear and fade. The bag is closed with a drawstring, which is sewn at the selvedge edge of the denim. A rare piece of Navy history and nautical folk art that would look great framed.
