Monsters Within
Plates from a medical text / engravings / c. 18th century
Pair of early anatomical engravings from a French medical treatise, c. mid- to late 18th century. The engravings present the vascular system, the veins and arteries charting the contours of invisible human bodies. But rather than depicting aspects of human anatomy, the surreal and grotesque plates seem to independent, monstrous beings — which are in fact within us.
Archivally framed.

Very good antique condition.
