Sold: Jim
Vintage folk art hardware toy made for “Jim” c. 1940s. I can see Dad rummaging in the workshop for different hinges, knobs, and wheels for his son to play with, then painting the board in this folk take on midcentury modern as a backdrop for clicks and clacks of the hardware under the hand of a toddler. An imaginative homemade toy, but perhaps much more as a metaphorical model of personhood: Jim, as represented in his regimented, articulated, simplistic, functional components.
