Hand-carved whistle  / horn, wood, cork / c. 1870s

Antique hand-carved horn whistle, c. mid- to late 19th century. Exquisitely carved, the whistle has an inset wood mouthpiece and a loose interior cork ball which creates a warbling tone making its bright, pleasant sound more distinctive. The piece has a hole drilled at its end for wearing the whistle on a chain. A rare survivor in remarkable condition.

Excellent antique condition.
