Description
Clasped hands in relief, c. mid-nineteenth century. Although at first glance they appear to be plaster, I believe they are carved wood with gesso. In American folk art, hands often represented friendship or love tokens, and were a frequent symbol in Odd Fellows fraternal iconography.
Condition
Sublime aged patina and wear.
Measurements
2 x 4 inches.
