Graduate Optician Sign

Optician’s advertising sign / pine with painted stenciling / c. 1900

Antique small wooden stenciled sign for a Rockland, Maine optician, c. late 19th or early 20th century. The sign reads:

C.H. Pendleton, Graduate Optician. Consultation Free. Optical Parlors Over Pendleton’s Drug Store. Rockland, Maine.

Given the smaller size of the sign, I believe it was intended for roadside use, to be tacked up to telegraph poles or mile markers. Great typography and graphic eye stencil.

Condition

Good antique condition, with minor surface wear and one corner which shows evidence of an errant spot of white paint.

Measurements

Approximately 20 inches long
