Sold: Folk Art Tugboat
Tugboat model / wood, tin, iron pipe / c. 1920s
Antique folk art tugboat model, found in New Castle, New Hampshire, c. 1920s. At sixteen inches long, the local model may have depicted a vessel which once plied the local Piscataqua River in Portsmouth Harbor. Meticulous and skillful in its design and construction, the realistically detailed and painted steamship nevertheless has the unmistakable charm of a homemade model. From the iron pipe smokestack down to the braided string bumper on the bow, the details of the tug demonstrate many painstaking hours at the workbench. An exceptional ship model with an unusual subject.
Condition
Very good antique condition with minor repairs to the model’s base for stability.
