Folk art jigger dancing figure / carved pine / c. 1880s

Antique hand-carved and articulated folk art figure of a man, c. late 19th century. Swinging arms and legs, the fellow comes to life when you tap the shingles onto which he’s mounted. Given the fragile wood he’s made from, it’s amazing he’s danced around time to make it to us intact. An evocative example of this favorite folk art toy.
