Flapper Head
Vintage folk art mounted flapper head on palette, dated 1940. Handmade and certainly one of a kind, the piece is painted plaster and wood. The female head in the quintessential flapper Louise Brooks style bob cut is inexplicably mounted like taxidermy to a palette and flanked with brushes. She has in her mouth a wooden cigarette, which is removable (and not at all suggestive). Hand painted text of reverse side reads:
“Jennie
From a Friend
Tim
1940”
The piece is in good vintage condition, with some facial paint loss that has been touched up to match original color. One of the wackiest pieces of folk art (and perhaps most evocative) I’ve found and probably the strangest gift “Jennie” ever received.
