Sold: Candy Girl
Unopened candy container in the form of a nude woman / glass, paper, ancient sugar / c. 1930
This vintage glass candy jar somehow both escaped time and sweet-toothed children, remaining untouched despite its eighty-plus years. The jar takes the shape of a woman, whose face is paper and placed on the interior of the glass. Slightly off kilter, her misplaced face and translucent skin not only give the piece an evocative, surreal quality, but also lend the object a greater unintended significance: A woman’s body transformed into candy, her person rendered invisible.
