Description
Folk art carved stone hand, c. third quarter nineteenth century. Carved as a cameo, the hand holds an oak leaf and acorn, a symbol of strength and endurance. Identifying himself as William Hughes, its carver indicates in chalk on the base that the piece should be “given to my Brother.” A striking and powerful American folk art carving.
