Bottled House

Folk art bottle containing miniature house / glass bottle, polychrome carved wood / c. 1940s

Description

Fantastic “house in a bottle” folk art whimsy. One of the most extraordinary puzzle bottles I’ve found, the glass enclosure contains a miniature residence complete with interior rooms and porch inhabited by tiny wooden people. The piece was evidently constructed over countless hours, individual elements added with painstaking care likely with long tweezers, assembled with paintbrush-applied glue. That said, the wonder of these bottled works of art is contained within the mystery of their execution (and contemplating the unfathomable patience of their makers).
