Description
Hand-cut bone Georgian dice with turned cups, c. turn of the nineteenth century. Each di bears the mark of GR and a crown, in accordance with the 1765 Stamp Act, the notorious English tax which led to the American Revolution. Enacted in response to the burgeoning costs fo the French and Indian Wars, the Stamp Act taxed a variety of articles, including playing cards and dice.
