Sold: 1890s Pencils

Store display box of Eagle slate pencils / wood and cardboard / c. 1890s

The Eagle Pencil Company was founded in 1856, when mass produced pencils were still unpainted to show off the high-quality wood casings — typically Eastern red cedar. By the 1890s manufacturers began to paint their pencils to set their products apart. For well over a century, these wild-hued pencils have remained sharpened but untouched in their original store display box.
