Portrait of a Sailor
Studio portrait photograph of a young woman in a sailor’s cap in a folk art hand-painted frame, c. 1900. The paperboard frame—apparently a modified standard issue from the photographer’s studio—is painted with a wonderful image of a sailboat in silver and dark green, the woman’s face framed in an oval cut from the sail. The painted mat also has a detailed border. An unusual and charming photograph found in Maine.
Excellent antique condition.
